The Salina Chorale, this spring under the direction of William Tuzicka for one final time, and accompanied by Sue Will, presents a musical potpouri of choral pieces, called “Songs of Promise & Remembrance,” 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, 151 S. Santa Fe Ave. in Salina, KS. Tickets are available from Salina Chorale members until Monday, April 15, and then after that only at the door before the concert.

Our talented group ofcommunity singers has been in rehearsal since January, preparing some of our director Bill Tuzicka’s favorite choral pieces. Our program is filled with a challenging variety of musical styles with poignant, meaningful messages for heart and soul. This will be our final semester and last concert under the leadership of a stellar director. Please come for this last hurrah for William Tuzicka before he retires from this role with our Salina Chorale.

The program to be presented by our 65 singers includes “Cantique,” “Corner of the Sky,” “Kittery,” “God Be In My Head,” “Home on the Range,” “Old Irish Blessings,” “One Tin Soldier” from the film Billy Jack, “Prayer for the Children,” “That Lonesome Road” by James Taylor & Don Groinick, “Prayer for the Children,” “River in Judea,” “Shenandoah,” and more.

ABOUT THE SALINA CHORALE

The Salina Chorale is a community chorus dedicated to the promotion of choral music, and it is open to all, from high school students to all ages of adults, who enjoy ensemble singing. The Chorale is an outgrowth of the Salina Community Chorus, which was begun in 1961 under the direction of Mr. John Sample. The group was reorganized as the Salina Chorale in January 1979.

OUR DIRECTOR

William “Bill” Tuzicka began as conductor and music director for the Salina Chorale in 2009, and is now in his final semester. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Bethany College and Master of Music Education degree from Wichita State University. Mr. Tuzicka taught choral music at Southeast of Saline Junior/Senior High School in Gypsum, KS, for 37 years. He serves as the Technical Director and Director of Operations for the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, a position from which he will be retiring this summer. A search for a new music director for the Salina Chorale is under way.
