Flower Quilts Showcase

STRONG CITY, Kansas:  Come see the 14^th annual quilt display at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve over the Labor Day Weekend.  Beautiful flower quilts will be the featured attraction of this year’s program. If you have a flower-inspired quilt you would like to show, call the preserve at 620-273-8494 (hit 0). Quilts are needed by August 28^th and can be dropped off at the preserve between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. It’s not too late to participate.

The prairie is filled with wildflowers at different times of the year and by September, the fall flower season is upon us. Wildflowers such as dotted gayfeather, Snow-on-the-Mountain, asters, and sunflowers are some of the flowers you may find in the prairie. Before heading out to see these beautiful flowers in their natural setting, take in the beautiful flower-inspired quilts.

The quilts will be on display in the historic limestone barn from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 31^st, September 1^st, and 2^nd. As a fun activity, feel free to vote for your favorite quilt. On Monday, September 2^nd at 1 p.m., the winner will be announced.

On Saturday August 31^st join an old-fashioned square dance among the beautiful quilts. Dance is from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the historic 1882 limestone barn. Come swing your partner to live music being performed. Cold lemonade and ice water will be served. All activities and events are free of charge, so bring the kids, a picnic lunch, and make some fun family memories.
